Role Overview

We are seeking a versatile and talented Unreal Engine Cinematic Artist with a passion for storytelling and a diverse skill set. As a creative jack-of-all-trades, you'll be responsible for creating dynamic, visually stunning cinematic sequences for our animation and film projects, while also contributing to various aspects of production. In our small and versatile team, you'll have the opportunity to handle multiple facets of both pre- and post-production.

As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with directors, animators, and technical artists to translate creative vision into high-quality cinematics using Unreal Engine's powerful real-time rendering capabilities. We are seeking a multi-talented artist who can handle a wide variety of aspects across the entire production pipeline, adapting to the needs of each project and contributing expertise throughout the creative process.

Responsibilities

• Create high-quality, photo-realistic cinematic sequences using Unreal Engine, with a focus on storytelling, composition, camera work, and lighting.

• Develop storyboards, pre-visualizations, and animatics to guide cinematic sequences, collaborating closely with the Creative Director and other team members.

• Work with cleaned motion capture data, integrating it into Unreal Engine to create lifelike character performances.

• Oversee the visual look of cinematics, ensuring alignment with the project's creative vision while contributing to the overall storytelling process.

• Collaborate with animators, environment artists, and technical artists to ensure seamless integration of assets, characters, and environments.

• Lead optimization efforts for cinematics, making critical decisions on rendering methods (path tracing, Lumen) to balance quality and performance.

• Contribute to pre-production phases, including look development, mood-boards, set dressing, lighting, and visual concepts.

• Engage in post-production, including editing, sound design, color grading, rendering, and final mastering of cinematics.

• Tackle technical challenges such as cloth & fluid simulations and render methods to improve efficiency and quality.

• Organize cinematic assets and sequences within Unreal Engine, maintaining efficient workflows and project organization.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Cinematic Artist or similar role, with a strong portfolio of work in Unreal Engine.

• Proficiency in traditional DCCs (e.g., Maya, Blender) is a must; experience with Houdini and Nuke is highly preferred.

• Strong understanding of cinematic composition, camera techniques, and storytelling principles within Unreal Engine.

• Ability to work autonomously, tackling problems within Unreal Engine and driving cinematic sequences from start to finish with minimal supervision.

• Experience working with cleaned motion capture data and integrating it seamlessly into cinematic scenes.

• Deep knowledge of rendering optimization techniques, including decisions on path tracing vs. Lumen, to achieve the best possible balance of quality and performance.

• Attention to detail in lighting, set dressing, and visual effects, with the ability to create photo-realistic cinematics

• Experience with Metahumans and Metahuman Animator

• Experience in multiple phases of production, including pre-production (look dev, concepts), production (lighting, cinematography), and post-production (editing, sound-design color grading, rendering).

• Experience in project organization to improve cinematic production pipelines.

• Experience working on tight deadlines and managing multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Blueprints for cinematics is a plus.

• Previous experience with virtual production workflows is beneficial, though not mandatory.

• Ability to follow project guidelines and maintain a clean and organized project structure.

• Ability to act and voice is a plus.
